Extracting Honey

First, the supers (boxes) containing frames of capped honey are removed from the hives and transported to the extracting location.

The full, capped frames of honey removed from each super.

The wax cappings are removed from each side of the frame using a large knife.  The uncapped frames are loaded into the extractor.  The extractor is spun and centrifugal force extracts the honey from the frames.  The honey collects in the bottom of the extractor.

The honey gate is opened and the honey, complete with pieces of wax capping and the odd bee is decanted from the extractor. It is then passed through a fine mesh filter into another 35L bucket ready for bottling. The finished product:  The strained honey is decanted into individual jars and buckets of various size.
